Choose with care
Mbuna, peacocks and confusing names.
The group points you in a direction; each species profile tells the rest.
Look past the color
Common names can lump together fish with different needs. A scientific name and a documented line tell you more than a color label.
Food and tankmates
Aulonocara hunt small animals, while many mbuna graze algae and the life growing on rocks. Species differ; Chipokae, for example, shouldn't be treated as a simple algae eater.
Check before deciding
Check each species' profile for group, diet and habitat. Matching data doesn't guarantee they'll get along: size, individual fish, territory and layout matter too.
